Edward (Ed)

Edward is an inquisitive thoroughbred who loves to race around his pasture, play with toys in his water trough, and spend time with his friend, Shane.

Ed is a twenty-seven-year-old thoroughbred gelding. He spent the beginning of his life on the racetrack, then was turned over to a kill pen when he could no longer race. He was rescued by Leigh Hearon, who gave him a second chance at life as a lesson horse for kids learning to show jump. When his body could no longer handle jumping, Leigh brought Ed to live at A Farm for Annie to be spoiled in his retirement.

Ed's Care

Ed has lost most of his teeth and can no longer eat hay; instead, he receives four mashes per day (we call them "green smoothies"). He also experiences tender-footedness, struggles with body pain, and has arthritis.

He receives specialty hoof trims and receives Equioxx for pain management.

Donate once, or set up a recurring monthly donation to support Ed's ongoing care.

  • $10 – Contribute to Ed's treat fund

  • $15 – Purchase Ed a bottle of fly spray (he hates flies!)

  • $50 – Provide Ed with a specialty hoof trim

  • $60 – Pay for a week of Ed's mashes
